Date: 4th-6th of June

The start of the USBA Sport Chalet US Open of Bodyboarding was kicked off with the National Anthem, sung by Priscilla Eve, a local Los Angeles artist. Competition began with the Men’s Pro Division with riders from all around the globe as well as local competitors. With seven heats lined up in the first round of the Men’s Pro, the athletes set the tempo for not only themselves but for the rest of the divisions of the contest. Heavy hitters such as Jeff Hubbard, Guilherme Tamega, Jacob Romero, and Jason Bitzer were kept on their toes by rising talent such as Alex Brown, Nick Ormerod, Hayata Enkido, and Nicholas Seymour.

Keeping the action going were the Drop Knee Pro riders in their quarterfinals. A full on clinic of how to lay it down DK on a Bodyboard was shown to the masses on the beach! With the lineup of DK riders, you would know that every big name pro came out to this event to try and stake claim of being the best. David Hubbard, Micah McMullin, Bud Miyamoto, Joe Grodzen, Nick Ashby, Chris Taloa, and Jeff Bragg were just a handful of the talent, but all took it to the final horn in each heat.

Finally came time for the beautiful women of our sport to display their talent. The Women’s Pro Round 1 was filled with great waves and excellent riding. The semi finals tomorrow will be filled with stiff competition to look forward too.

The day wound down with excitement from both the Amateur Open and 13-18 yr old divisions. Even with the winds picking up a bit, conditions stayed fairly descent. Standouts were Rocket Klein, Trevor Kam, Marshall Orr, and Shea Sevilla

Sunday will be action packed with the semi-finals and finals lined up with a high level of competition. Everyone who advanced is hungry for making the podium and claiming their title as the USBA Sport Chalet US Open champ!
